Background:
Earlswood Phase 1 and Phase 3 form part of the ongoing upgrade works at Earlswood Sewage Treatment Works (STW), aimed at improving the efficiency and performance of the treatment process in order to meet future demand and better hit regulatory performance targets. Phase 1 works involved the design and construction of a new recirculation pumping station, taking flow the outlet of the primary filters, and recirculating back to the inlet of the primary sedimentation tanks. This system was designed to maintain a constant (user-inputted) flowrate through the primary filters, improving their performance. The scope of Phase 3 works included the design and construction of a new tertiary treatment works at the outlet of the existing STW. This involved the design and construction of a two new pumping stations (TSR Feed and Backwash), and the installation of Hydrok Mecana Filters, as well as all accompanying pipework and fittings.
Our Role:
LJR Engineering worked on behalf of the Principal Contractor to provide MEICA project management and technical expertise across the duration of the project. As well as providing assistance during the design and tender phases, for the bulk of the construction phase of the project LJR Engineering had a permanent member of our team onsite, assisting the principal contractor’s site manager in day to activities and using our technical background to ensure the contractor’s installation met the requirements of the client and was in line with the project specification. We also led the commissioning of both new installations, producing a full commissioning plan, method statement and set of procedures to allow complete testing of site functionality.
